Stop the delay of bike and pedestrian safety improvements to 2027

On April 29th, the Cambridge City Council voted to delay critically needed bike and pedestrian safety improvements to 2027.

The dangerous Policy Order they are discussing would:

  • Ban installation of bike lanes on the critical routes of Cambridge St, Broadway, and Main St until as late as mid-2025.

  • Delay the legal deadlines for all planned quick-build bike lane and pedestrian safety projects, including Cambridge St, Broadway, and Main St, to November 2027. Based on current City plans, this means bike lanes on Cambridge St and Broadway would be delayed from 2025 to 2027.

On Cambridge St alone, since 2021 there have been at least 65 crashes of people on bikes, pedestrians, and other forms of active transportation, which led to at least 43 people being injured. Of those injured, at least 27 left in an ambulance. We need to build safer infrastructure without delay!
