Wealthy inhabitants of Awbrey Butte are trying to weaponize Bend's development code to stop apartments from being built in their neighborhood.

They've been using obscure bits of Bend's land use rules to try and shut down these homes, because they feel that their "exclusive" neighborhood shouldn't have that kind of housing.

They've already delayed the project significantly, which will make it even more expensive. We'd like to see rents come down in Bend, not get driven up by cost overruns because people living in million dollar homes seek out legal loopholes to stop desperately needed housing from being built.
