Democratic Speaker of the California Assembly Anthony Rendon announced that he will "hold" SB 562, The Healthy California Act, which would provide single-payer healthcare for all Californians.  Rendon said in his statement, “I have decided SB 562 will remain in the Assembly Rules Committee until further notice.”  Though many have reported that Rendon has killed the bill, what he has actually done is stalled it for a year until 2018 unless he decides to pass the bill out of committee sooner.  Let Rendon know that we elected Assemblymembers to represent us and he needs to move SB 562 out of committee and to a vote so they can do their jobs.

While it is possible that Democrats held SB 562 strategically because they knew it wouldn't pass a vote, we need to let Rendon know how vocal we are in support of this bill.  Suggested call script: “I strongly support SB 562, the Healthy California Act, because every Californian deserves guaranteed healthcare.  I’m urging Speaker Rendon to stop participating in secret insider deals on our healthcare.  He must move SB 562 forward as the best solution to the federal attacks on American healthcare.  No other solution saves billions and covers everyone with medical, dental, vision, mental health, and more.”
