Defend Immigrant Youth!
Today, on the Sept 5 deadline for DACA, Donald Trump, in a move to appease white supremacists, announced the termination of the DACA program, putting the lives of over 800,000 immigrant youth in danger, stripping them of their legal status, and making them direct targets for detention and deportation.
Over the last 5 years, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has given 800,000 immigrant youth across the country, and over 5,000 in CT, the opportunity to thrive in their cities, access higher education, drive for the first time, and contribute to the economic workforce.
The killing of DACA is white supremacy in action. It is a strategy designed to result in young people of color will be racially profiled, chased down, locked in detention camps and deported.
Make no mistake, there is fear and anxiety in our communities today. But no matter the pain and hurt, we know that there is strength and resilience in our communities to keep each other safe and to fight
We call on Members of Congress to pass legislation to keep immigrant youth safe. There should be NO gap in protection and they must act now.
