Demand Abortion Access on Campus in Massachusetts
Problem: Limited Abortion Access
As abortion is banned across the country, Massachusetts is about to become a safe haven for out-of-staters who badly need abortion care.
- We need to keep our clinics open by increasing out-of-clinic abortion options for Massachusetts residents.
In addition, the majority of public universities in the state are located in abortion deserts, meaning thousands of students have hours-long travel to the nearest clinic.
- This causes unnecessary, financial, logistical and emotional barriers for the hundreds of students who have abortions while in school each year.
That's why we're demanding the Massachusetts legislature pass H 4821! If passed, students would be able to access medication abortion right on their campus. Allowing students to get abortion pills right on campus would alleviate a number of obstacles Massachusetts students face when trying to access abortion care, and allow in-person clinics to serve more out-of-state residents.
This isn't some wild dream — it is very possible:
- A law like this already exists in California, increasing access to safe, medication abortion for thousands of young people in the state.
- The FDA has approved medication abortion for up to 10 weeks of pregnancy.
- Beginning in Fall 2022, UMass Amherst will provide medication abortion on campus. We want this expansion of abortion access to be the reality on all MA public campuses!
