DSA Stands With Entertainment Workers!
The WGA has gone on strike, and THIS WEEK, SAG-AFTRA might join them!
While Hollywood might seem glitzy and glamorous, a dream factory is still a factory. Workers in the entertainment industry are asking for fair pay and fair protections in the workplace. The bosses however, have rejected to even counter many of the basic demands offered by the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The workers have no choice but to strike.
As socialists, we must stand with workers when they withhold their labor and shutdown an industry in order to fight for their rights. These Hollywood workers are asking for our help and support – and it is time to show them we have their backs. That's why DSA-LA is #StrikeReady!
Los Angeles is a major battlefront in this fight. We've been mobilizing for months to support WGA workers, and we're ready to support SAG-AFTRA if they join the fight.
Here's how you can help:
We're raising funds to deliver hot coffee, cold drinks, food, snacks, supplies, and other necessities to strikers in the Los Angeles area. Thanks to the almost $30,000 we've raised, we've been able to make daily deliveries to the ten picket lines across the city!
But at our current spend rate, we'll run out of funds before the end of the summer. Considering the WGA strike might continue through or beyond the fall – and SAG-AFTRA might be joining soon - we don't want to cut back on our supplies. We can't show the bosses and studios we're losing momentum!
We know times are tough, but every dollar you can give has a huge effect. It shows working writers that we're all in this together. If you can, please consider monthly or weekly recurring donations - they make planning our budgets each week extremely helpful.
With all the funds we've raised, we also need help getting it to the strikers! That's why Hollywood Labor has started The Snackpack! They're a team of DSA volunteers who can help distribute and drop off items and supplies to the front lines of the WGA's fight against the greedy studios. And if SAG-AFTRA workers goes on strike, we're ready to support them too!
