Immigrants face a new “normal” of state violence and vigilantism: unprecedented attacks by the government, hyper-criminalization and mass deportation. The legacies of Jim Crow laws, anti-blackness, and xenophobia remain embedded in our laws and legal systems and steer immigrants and their families to prisons, deportation, and poverty. Trump’s administration has captured the Supreme Court for a generation and continues to remake our legal system and courts to enact a distorted vision of law and civil rights, starting with our immigration system.

Uprooting and disrupting these evils requires sustained support for provocative and visionary agendas designed by progressive, organized peoples of the immigrant and criminal justice movements. These organizers and base-building groups have called for legal support to lift up their agendas on dismantling the deportation and criminal enforcement machines. The critical gap is lawyers and legal advocates who will work with these movement builders and support their campaigns, education and advocacy strategies. Just Futures Law has come together to address this gap.
