End the Deadliest Animal Sacrifice: Gadhimai Festival
Every five years, the Gadhimai Festival in Nepal becomes the site of unimaginable cruelty. This year over 150,000 animals—buffalo, goats, birds, and more—sacrificed in the name of tradition. The festival is steeped in suffering, with terrified animals trafficked illegally, only to meet a gruesome end on roadsides, temples, and within a slaughter arena.
This bloodshed is an assault on humanity’s shared values of compassion and respect for life. The festival’s victims are subjected to unspeakable torment and left in pools of blood amidst the stench of death and despair.
It is a living nightmare.
While the Nepalese government promised reforms after an international outcry, these commitments remain unfulfilled. The cycle of violence continues, unchecked.
We urge the Nepalese authorities to honor their promises and ban animal sacrifices at Gadhimai once and for all. Humane alternatives exist to honor tradition without taking lives. This festival can be a celebration of faith and culture without barbarity.
We call on compassionate people everywhere to stand together and demand an end to this massacre. The lives of countless animals hang in the balance, and time is running out. Let us unite for change and ensure the Gadhimai Festival transforms into a symbol of peace, not suffering.
