***THE NOMINATIONS FOR LOCAL-LEVEL ENDORSEMENT***
Austin Prop E -- Ranked-Choice Voting
- Main Points: Amends the City Charter be amended to provide for the use of ranked-choice voting in city elections (RCV systems allow voters to rank candidates by preference on their ballots). This should allow our democratic process to be more fair and functional. Click here to learn about ranked-choice voting.
Austin Prop H -- Democracy Dollars
- Main Points: Amends the City Charter to adopt a public campaign finance program, which requires the city clerk to provide up to two $25 vouchers to every registered voter who may contribute them to candidates for city office who meet the program requirements.
- Concerns: This Prop currently excludes immigrants with green cards and people who have been incarcerated, are on parole and/or probation. It also does not reform other aspects of campaign finance which would allow the richest of donors to make additional donations. While it may level the playing field a bit, the direct issue of campaign finance may not be resolved.
- Fixes: There has been a promise made to fix these concerns, but only after the prop is passed. While the fixes will likely be introduced, there's no guarantee that the fixes will be passed/implemented. Please take all of this into consideration.
Current ATX endorsements: NO to Prop B (Homes Not Handcuffs).
