Tell the FEC: Investigate and Prosecute Elon Musk's Illegal Trump Events Now!
Elon Musk is now blatantly violating federal election law in a desperate bid to help Trump win Pennsylvania.
Musk recently announced a series of "talks" in Pennsylvania but to attend these free events, people are required to prove they've already voted. This quid pro quo arrangement is textbook vote buying and a clear violation of federal law.
This is precisely the kind of corrupt practice that undermines free and fair elections.
Federal law prohibits making "an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote." Violators can face up to a year in prison. We cannot allow a billionaire to brazenly flout election law just because he has deep pockets and expensive lawyers.
This is far from Musk's first attempt to improperly influence elections:
-
He's secretly funneled over $50 million to right-wing dark money groups since 2022
-
His newly formed Super PAC, America PAC, is already under investigation in multiple states for deceptive voter outreach tactics.
-
America PAC has spent $72 million on pro-Trump efforts in just 3 months, funded entirely by Musk.
Requiring proof of voting to attend campaign events crosses a bright red legal line. It's a shameless attempt to coerce and incentivize voting behavior.
If Musk is allowed to get away with this, it will open the floodgates to all manner of corrupt vote-buying schemes by billionaires and special interests. Our democracy cannot withstand that kind of assault on election integrity.
This is about more than just one billionaire's arrogance. It's about preserving the integrity of our elections and the principle that every vote should be free from coercion or financial incentives.
Sign on to our letter demanding the FEC investigate and prosecute Elon Musk for his illegal Trump events by adding your name now!
To Federal Election Commission: It’s time for an immediate investigation into Elon Musk's recent campaign events in Pennsylvania, which violates federal election law prohibiting vote buying. Musk has announced a series of "talks" in Pennsylvania where attendance is restricted to those who have already voted. This is a clear attempt to provide something of value, admission to hear him speak, in exchange for voting. Federal law is clear about this: Anyone who "makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote or to vote for or against any candidate" can be fined or face up to one year in prison. Musk's events are not simply expressing support for a candidate. By explicitly requiring proof of voting as a condition of attendance, he has crossed the line into illegal vote buying. This kind of quid pro quo arrangement undermines the integrity of our elections and cannot be tolerated. I urge the FEC to take the following actions immediately:
Musk's billions and army of lawyers do not put him above the law. The FEC must act swiftly and decisively to shut down this illegal scheme and hold Musk accountable. Our democracy depends on free and fair elections, untainted by corrupt billionaires trying to buy influence.
