Get the Youth Abortion Support Collective Abortion Doula Training Facilitation Guide

We’re excited to launch our new Abortion Doula Training Facilitation Guide! This curriculum comes from a partnership between members of the Abortion Out Loud and Youth Abortion Support Collective (YouthASC) programs at Advocates for Youth, Advocates for Youth staff, and Dopo, an abortion doula training organization.

Fill out this form to get the facilitation guide including all slides and activity materials you need to lead your very own abortion support course for young people in your community.

What is an abortion doula?

Dopo defines an Abortion Doula as “Anyone that can physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually hold space for someone before, during, and/or after abortion.” This curriculum explore different forms of support that may show up in clinical and non-clinical contexts, providing support for surgical and medical abortions, and how to organize your campus community to create support networks.

How can I use this guide?

This training curriculum is intended for young people interested in abortion doula and support work. The materials in the guide make up six weeks of two hour training sessions (with breaks), plus one session of “Chatty Hours,” an opportunity for participants to ask questions and hear experiences outside of formal training sessions.

What is included?

  1. An overview of each session, links to session slides, tips for facilitating, and a deeper dive into key takeaways.
  2. A Workbook which participants use to access session resources and slides, take notes during sessions, and complete activities in between sessions. The Workbook contains a language glossary and an additional resource list, almost like an abortion support encyclopedia!
  3. The Session Slides, which contain all content for the two-hour sessions. All slides contain Session Slide Notes, which give slide-by-slide facilitation instructions, including suggested language and activity descriptions.
