How do you want to help with signature gathering?

To ban Missouri politicians from attacking the will of the people, it will take thousands of volunteers gathering signatures for the Respect MO Voters citizen initiative this summer. That includes leaders to help organize those signature gatherers. Can you help? Here are the roles you can fill all across the Show Me state:

Field Director:

  • Time commitment: 15-40 hours per week
  • Regional Field Directors support their local Field Captains in the same way those Captains support their Signature Gatherers. You’ll provide guidance and keep them supplied, motivated, and coordinated. You and your Field Captains will set the Field strategy for your region, keep track of the region’s progress toward signature goals, and ensure good work is recognized and rewarded.
  • A Regional Field Director should have significant experience with people management and/or political campaigns. You should be highly organized and an excellent communicator.

Field Captain:

  • Time commitment: 10-15 hours per week
  • Local Field Captains provide support and guidance for signature gathering teams. You’ll make sure each Gatherer has supplies (petitions, pens, clipboards, flyers), at least one gathering partner, a list of good gathering locations, and someone to notarize completed sheets. Each week, you’ll also track the number of signatures your team gathers, report your progress to your Regional Field Director, collect your team’s completed sheets, and deliver them to a Regional Field office. You’ll mostly communicate via phone and email, but we encourage teams to regularly meet in person to coordinate and socialize.
  • Field Captains should have at least a little experience leading a small team or working on previous campaigns. You should be well-organized and a good communicator.

Notary

  • Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week
  • In order for signatures to be considered valid, all petition sheets in Missouri must be notarized when they're turned in. That rule is designed to burden signature gatherers with notary fees in the hopes that they'll stop gathering. So, our campaign will provide free notarization to reduce the burden on gatherers. As a campaign notary, you'll be asked to be available at a set turn-in location for several hours per week. We'll work around your availability. All that's required is your presence and your notary gear.
  • If you'd like to become a notary, check out our guide at https://respectmovoters.org/notary/. Certification costs about $100, and the process can be completed in weeks. If you need help paying the fees, tell a leader in the Field department and we'll help you find someone to sponsor you.

Signature Gatherer:

  • Time commitment: 1-2 hours per week
  • As a Signature Gatherer, you’ll collect signatures in a variety of ways: at festivals and events, parking lots and street corners, or from friends and family. A local Field Captain will help you coordinate with a gathering team, find a Notary for turn-ins, make sure you have clipboards and petition sheets, and keep track of your progress.
