Tell the County what you think. Lanark County is developing a climate action plan — a Climate Action Plan for us - for the residents, businesses, farms and community organizations of the County. The plan will guide us over the next 10 critical years during which time we must cut our greenhouse gas emissions in half.

Local governments have direct control or influence for over half of all of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions — in other words, what local governments and communities do matters!

Key agencies and governments are calling for deep cuts:

• the United Nations climate change committee states that "emissions of CO2 need to fall by about 45 percent from 2010 levels by 2030, reaching 'net zero' around 2050" if we are to keep within the safe range of a temperature increase of only 1.5-2.0 degrees C.

• The Government of Canada has committed to reduce emissions by 40-45% from 2005 levels by 2030.
  

Climate Network Lanark is a member of the County’s Climate Action Plan committee that oversees the development of the CAP. It will propose an emission reductions target at its February meeting.  Let’s give the committee the impetus it needs to take the strong, innovative actions they want to take and that we, the community, want them to take.

Addressing climate change now, where we live, is about our children and their children — the next Seven Generations — a place to live, work and play. It begins with setting aggressive targets. Join us in sending a clear message to the Committee by saying yes to the following:

I want Lanark County and Smiths Falls to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030.
