What do we want that to mean & how do we get there?

"Did you notice? The recent revision of the International Coaching Federation Code of Ethics adds "diversity" & "inclusion" into the core values & expectations of ICF members.

What does this ask of us in our coaching, in our coaching schools and our professional bodies? How can we leverage this guidance from our professional organization to draw attention to issues of race and power in coaching? At a time when the #BlackLivesMatter movement has many Americans race and racism how can we as coaches play a powerful role in working for racial justice, wherever we are?
Join a conversation with Julie Roberts-Phung, a longtime community organizer, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ www.showingupforracialjustice.org) regional resource person & career and leadership coach. We will be exploring what this guidance means to each of us in our coaching and in our profession more broadly.

Our presenter will share some simple organizing tools and together we will explore how to use these tools, combined with the skills and powerful questions we already have, to be even more effective agents of change in our profession.

Julie Roberts-Phung is a longtime community organizer, career and leadership coach. She is a regional resource person for Showing Up for Racial Justice (www.showingupforracialjustice.org SURJ), which invites White Americans to work for racial justice. As a community organizer for over 15 years, she has worked (mostly with and for Black and Latino people in the US) to build power and win policies benefiting communities of color and low income people. She helped raise the US minimum wage, created a new $25 million state housing assistance fund, and won policies that spurred the growth of the green economy while benefiting low income families and people of color.

As a career and leadership coach, Julie works with a wide variety of people in and beyond social justice movements. She is constantly wrestling with how to effectively bring issues of race, identity, and power dynamics into her coaching with all her clients. As a community member, she works to bring these issues forward wherever she is, including organizing families, coaches and San Franciscans to work for racial justice.
