It’s Back! Put Birth Control Pills On Your Local Shelves - #FreeThePill
Back by popular demand! We're thrilled to relaunch our popular action where you can put a pack of birth control pills on the shelf at your local CVS or student store! (Well, sort of!)
Last year, over 300 activists participated in this action, helping folks imagine what it would look like if birth control pills were available over-the-counter by putting prop birth control boxes on the shelves of their local drugstores. Months later, the FDA accepted a formal application to make that a reality, and now we expect there to be an FDA hearing this year!
Can you keep building momentum today? The first *150* young people (ages 14-24) who sign up for this campaign will receive in the mail:
- Several prop packs of birth control pills for you to leave on the shelves at your local CVS, Walgreens, and Student Stores. Yes, really! Look at some of what we did last time
In addition, we'll also send you:
- Instructions on how to leave the boxes behind at your local stores, post a "shelfie" about it on social media, and an action you can take to demonstrate to the FDA that you support #FreeThePill.
- More #FreeThePill merchandise, including stickers showing pills on a shelf that you can place in bathrooms, on bulletin boards, telephone polls, etc. to spread the message far and wide.
- Talking points and Frequently Asked Questions to help you talk to your peers and community about the campaign
- Sample post language and examples of what your social media posts can look like
Young people are tired of jumping through hoops to get the contraception they need, and they’re tired of not being trusted to make their own healthcare decisions. So we're going to lead this fight for change, and we're going to win!
While the front of the boxes looks like someone can actually buy birth control pills, customers who pick it up will see on the back (pictured) that it's a call to action! The QR code leads to a webpage detailing what you can do to help bring The Pill over-the-counter and onto the shelves right next to condoms and Plan B.
