Moumita for City Council

My name is Moumita Ahmed, I am running for city council to bring real working-class representation to city hall. I was not born wealthy or affluent. Like most people in New York City, I grew up in a rent-stablized apartment. My mother worked in fast food while my father worked graveyard shifts at a factory to keep food in our fridge and a roof over our head.

When families were struggling during the pandemic, I started the Queens Mutual Aid Network to help families like mine access food, unemployment, and groceries.

Our campaign will be about building a movement grounded in those ideals of mutual aid and solidarity. A district and city where neighbors protect and care for each other, and come together collectively to solve our problems and make real change.

The developers are building apartments we can’t afford. Fossil fuel companies are polluting our futures. Police unions are protecting officers who break the law. They seem compelling, but the real power is when our communities come together to fight for what is right and just. There’s power in our voices, our actions, and our votes. Together we are going to build a district and city that works for all of us. Join me on this journey.
