Native Organizing Training 2019
The 2019 Native Organizing Training will be held October 14-20, on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.
The training is geared to Native leaders and organizers, who want to build community with skills rooted in Native traditional practices and wisdom. The training is geared to those who share a belief that grassroots people play a critical role in the struggle for tribal sovereignty. Applications are due by 11:59 pm EDT, September 14, 2019. Space is limited. Unfortunately, not all applicants will be accepted. Acceptance emails will be sent on September 18.
Tribal leaders, community organizers, the staff of Native-led nonprofits and tribal entities are all encouraged to apply. Participants We are seeking applicants from across Turtle Island, rural, reservation or urban communities will explore together what is needed today to organize a strong movement for social change. The training draws on the practices, experiences, and history of community building in Indian Country.
This unique six-day intensive learning circle, designed and led by the Native Organizers Alliance, explores traditional Native organizing principals, campaign planning, the strategies and tactics of community-led policy change, and an indigenous understanding of power dynamics. The sessions are all conducted through the lens of our Native inter-tribal cultural traditions.
The training is free for participants. We encourage participants to contribute as much as they can to help defray the costs and to allow for more participants to attend. The cost of registration, housing, transportation, and most meals are covered by the program. Participants are responsible for additional costs. Space is limited to 20 participants.
Organizations, tribal governments, groups or individuals who can contribute to defraying the costs of this training will provide the opportunity to go beyond 20 participants.
