Make a Call To Pass the Plastic Straw Bill in NYC

Please take two minutes right now to call your NYC council member to urge her/him to vote YES on Council member Espinal's plastic straws upon request only bill (bill 936).

1. Find your council member here - just enter your address in the search bar. It will pop up your council member's name, click on their name, then scroll down to find their office phone number(s) on the right. You can call either their district or their legislative number. Tip: save that number in your phone for future use! If you'd like to know if your council member already supports the bill, click here and check column H - if you see a "1", it means that he/she supports the bill already (but they still need to hear from you!). However, if there's nothing in column H, your council member is not yet in support of the bill and really needs to hear from you.

2. When someone answers, feel free to use your own words or follow this short script:

"Hi, my name is YOUR NAME. I'm calling from YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD to urge the council member to please support bill number 936, Council member Espinal's bill that would require that plastic straws only be handed out upon request and not automatically be given to people. This is important to me because I am very worried about our growing plastic pollution crisis which is threatening our oceans and wildlife and also all our health."

3. Thank the staffer for taking your call. They may ask you to provide your full address to verify that you are a constituent and also offer to put you on their email list - that's up to you.

4. Once you've hung up, take 2 secs to fill out the form on the right to let us know how your call went. A very important step!

Thank you so much for helping to stem the tide of plastic pollution in NYC and beyond.
