Add Your Name: Pray with Your Ballot in August

On August 8, Ohio will hold a special election to decide whether to make passing citizen-led statewide ballot initiatives more difficult by increasing the passage from a simple majority to 60%. This would be catastrophic for our democracy in Ohio and our ability to have a say and hold our government accountable. State-wide ballot initiatives are already difficult to pass, with about 75% failing. Raising the threshold to 60% would make it nearly impossible to pass anything. And it's no coincidence extreme politicians, lobbyists and special interests are pushing this through now as we work to get a state-wide initiative on the ballot this fall to secure abortion access.

Add your name to our faith leader sign-on, pledge to Vote NO in August, and build an Ohio where everyone is seen, heard, and has what they need to flourish and be safe.

Sign-on Letter and Pledge:

My faith teaches me that we love our neighbors by listening to them. Our sacred freedom to vote is one of the most critical ways we hear the voices and concerns of those around us. The joint resolution that passed the Ohio Senate and House in May silences the voices of those who must be heard in our state.

On the ballot for a special election in August is an extremist effort to raise the passage rate for ballot initiatives to 60%. It is unwise, unnecessary, undemocratic, and unpopular to change the Constitution and lock in the power of a small number of voters to rule over the majority. And it's no coincidence extreme politicians, lobbyists and special interests are pushing this through now as we work to get a state-wide initiative on the ballot this fall to secure abortion access.

They fear the people deciding what abortion access looks like in Ohio so much that they are working to restrict it through anti-democratic means. We can’t let that happen.

Our democracy is based on one person, one vote. I will act to preserve our democracy and protect access for all Ohioans to the ballot.

I pledge to pray with my ballot and VOTE NO in August.

I am one of the millions of faithful Ohioans who will continue to fight against unjust propositions like these. Fighting for our democracy is in the spiritual DNA of our collective and diverse faith traditions. We have seen throughout history that when faith leaders join together and push back, we can and will protect our communities and hold our leaders accountable.

Right now, extreme politicians, lobbyists and special interests in our state know what we know: that they are on the wrong side of the overwhelming majority of Ohioans who want to create communities from Ada to Zanesville where everyone is seen, heard, and has what they need to flourish and be safe. They are abusing their power to silence and harm Ohioans for generations to come.

I will not let that happen. I will pray with my ballot and Vote NO in August.
