Old bus station site: a car park or not?
Confusion over 'temporary' car park on old bus station site.
Exeter City Council's Labour leadership have confirmed that they will build a new 'temporary' car park on the site of the old bus station. At the same time, they have promised to hold a further consultation on whether or not they will build it, but not yet provided any date when this will happen, nor whether they are open to changing their minds should the public say they don't want a new car park there.
We know how many of you are against seeing a temporary car park - please add your voice to the growing campaign to stop this happening by calling for a proper consultation about temporary uses for this site.

Why is a new car park a bad idea?
The city centre has plenty of parking spaces available already
The Council's own policy is not to build more city centre car parking, as doing so undermines Council promises to reduce carbon emissions, encourage active travel and reduce air pollution
Given the economic climate, any 'temporary' use could stretch to many years, as finding funding for final development of the whole City Point site, (which is larger than just the old bus station) is a real challenge.
City centre business organisation InExeteris highly critical of the idea, calling instead for wider engagement with businesses and other city centre organisations, and 'more nuanced discussion'.
What you told us you want to see
The most popular suggestion was a temporary but vibrant market space, for more than just food, showcasing Devon's amazing produce and providing local small businesses a space to set up shop. A modest green space for people to sit and relax in the city centre, and use of quality food and drink vans were also popular suggestions.
