This year, Florida legislators passed state policy attacks against immigrant and LGBTQIA+ communities, making Florida an unwelcoming and dangerous state to visit. Tourism drives Florida’s economy, but how can any of us feel secure in a place where people’s right to move, learn, and work are constantly under attack?

On June 1st, 2023, the hateful anti-immigrant law SB1718 went into effect in Florida. This long laundry list of harmful policies impacts the day-to-day lives of immigrants and those around them. From requiring hospitals to inquire about patients’ immigration status to invalidating out-of-state licenses for undocumented drivers, SB1718 endangers immigrant communities!

And people outside of Florida are impacted by this law too! SB1718 makes “transporting” an undocumented person into the state a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison. This may include an undocumented family member or friend who travels with you, whether you’re driving a car across state lines or coming through an airport.

Let Florida officials know you won’t vacation in their state until it becomes a safe place for all! Florida elected officials care about the economic benefits of the state’s tourist attractions and presenting the Sunshine State as a dream getaway destination.
