TAKE THE PLEDGE - ⚧️ - SUPPORT RIGHTS OF YOUNG TRANS AND NON BINARY PEOPLE
The rights of young trans and non-binary people are under threat. Since Theresa May’s announcement of a LBGT+ Action plan in 2018, the Conservative Government has stalled any progress to reform the Gender Recognition Act, neglected to bring forward any plans to ban conversion therapy and abandoned our role in being a global leader for LGBTIQA+ rights.
This general election is an opportunity to change that and have a Government that works for the rights of young trans and non-binary people instead of against them.
Take the pledge! Use your vote to support the rights of young trans and non-binary people! This means voting for party that will at least push for these 5 policy changes that would improve the lives of young trans and non-binary people in the UK forever:
Legal Recognition for transgender and non-binary people - no matter your age: Reform the Gender Recognition Act to a process of self-declaration and allow transgender youth and non-binary people to obtain legal recognition of their gender by removing the 18 year-old minimum age and including the option of an X gender marker for intersex and non-binary people.
Tackle transphobia through anti-bullying programmes: Require every school to have an anti-bullying programme that explicitly combats homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic bullying.
Mandatory LGBTIQA+ inclusive education for all ages: Support schools in responding to protests over LGBTIQA+ inclusive education and help schools to effectively implement the new guidance about Sex and Relationships education.
Significant investment in mental health support for trans and non-binary people: Increase government spending on mental health services and ensure mental health professionals are equipped to deal with issues specific to young trans and non-binary people. Transgender people are particularly vulnerable to cuts in mental health services as they are at an increased-risk of mental health problems and suicide attempts, largely due to discrimination, isolation and transphobia.
Increase the capacity and provision of gender identity clinics - especially for under 18s: Increase the capacity and provision of gender identity clinics, especially for under-18s, and reduce waiting list times to ensure swift access to necessary medical procedures and mental health support for all trans people.
