Pledge to VOTE NO on #2 on Town Meeting Day!

On March 1, 2016, Question #2 on the Burlington Town Meeting Day ballot will ask voters to decide on the following:

Shall the City Council, Public Works Commission, Department of Public Works, and Administration be advised to keep four lanes open to motor vehicles on North Avenue from the Route 127 access intersection north to the Shore Road intersection?

Local Motion and Better Streets for Burlington urge you to VOTE NO on Question #2.  Take the pledge and spread the word!

A NO vote on Question #2 is a vote for safer streets for everyone:  for people driving, walking, biking, or taking the bus.  The four-lane section of North Avenue is a high-crash location, and Burlington deserves the opportunity to try something better.  We should all have choices about how we get where we need to go—and we shouldn't have to worry about whether we are going to make it there safely.

By voting NO on Question #2 on the Town Meeting Day ballot, we will deliver a clear message to city leaders that the people of Burlington want to give safer streets a chance.  The North Avenue pilot project is about trying out new ways to design our streets, with the goal of figuring out how to make them work for everyone.  A resounding NO vote on Question #2 will make it clear that we want to have the chance to drive and walk and bike the new road design—and decide whether it works based on facts and experience.

By signing this pledge, you are helping to build the momentum that we need to defeat Question #2 on March 1.  The proponents of this question have been organizing for a year and a half.  We have just a few weeks to organize against it.  But together, we can do it.

One last thing: we need your financial support to make this campaign a success!  The whole thing will cost about $10,000: $5,000 for a postcard going out to 12,000 Burlington voters, $2,500 to get lawn signs out across the city, $1,000 for handbills to hand out at the polls, $500 for an ad in the North Avenue News, and more.  Please consider making a secure donation via PayPal at http://betterstreetsbtv.com/donate/ today.
