Political Mindfulness: Fresh Perspectives on Multiple Crises

Join us on Wednesday 17th June (6.30 - 8.00pm) to launch Political Mindfulness: Fresh Perspectives on Multiple Crises, a collection of papers edited by Phil Cohen, with contributions from Ruth Lister, Mike Rustin, Angela McRobbie, Dick Pountain and Valerie Walkerdine.

From Brexit to Labour’s historic defeat in last year’s general election, and now the onset of a global pandemic which has also made even more apparent the impact of structural racism, it is easy to join up these very large dots into an overwhelming picture of doom and gloom. We must, however, regain composure in the face of these events.

This new Compass publication explores the mind set we need to develop if we are to avoid reaching for the panic button while addressing the enormous challenges we currently face. One way of describing that attitude is to call it mindfulness.

We'll be talking about this and much more with a fantastic panel of speakers: Ruth Lister (Labour Peer and member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on mindfulness), Phil Cohen (Research Director of the Livingmaps Network and author of Waypoints: towards an ecology of political mindfulness) and Mike Rustin (Professor of Sociology at the University of East London).

Political Mindfulness: Fresh Perspectives on Multiple Crises will be published soon on the Compass website.
