Prevent transit service cuts - tell legislators to support SB532

Please call and urge your State Assemblymember and Senator to support SB532 to prevent transit cuts.

The state budget provides transit with $1.1 billion in new funding (with $400 million expected for the Bay Area). This will help avoid catastrophic service reductions over the next 2 years, but is not enough to avoid cuts afterwards for BART, SFMTA, AC Transit and Caltrain.

If passed, SB532 (Wiener) would generate some $600-650 million in transit funding for the Bay Area by increasing bridge tolls by $1.50 during a 5-year period (annually adjusted for inflation). This would apply on all state-owned bridges in the region, except the Golden Gate Bridge. Funding is specifically intended to avoid service cuts; reconfigure transit services to better meet underserved passengers; and improve safety, cleanliness, and customer experience.

SB532 would provide a "bridge" while the region is planning a regional ballot measure for 2026 to put Bay Area transit service on stable footing.

For members that have not made their support known:

Hi, my name is xxxx and I am a California resident living in [city]. [Talk about your experience with transit and how it impacts you, your friends, loved ones, and community].

Please support Senator Wiener's SB532 to prevent transit cuts. Transit is essential for our region's housing, equity, and climate goals. This emergency and temporary measure will help regrow ridership, preserve the millions of month trips that transit currently serve, and prevent furthering congestion on our roads. The author is working with organizations on addressing equity concerns.
