On April 2nd 2015 rallies will be taking place all across the nation calling on President Obama who is currently contemplating issuing an Executive Order requiring disclosure of campaign contributions for federal contractors.

The New York City "Rally to Shine a Light on Corruption of our Democracy" organizing group, made up of a coalition of grassroots organizations working together to call on President Obama, who is currently contemplating issuing an Executive Order requiring disclosure of campaign contributions for federal contractors. The event is being organized by Big Apple Coffee Party, Common Cause, O.W.S. Special Projects Affinity Group and Public Citizen as part of a national effort of Money Out / Voters In.

“President Obama said in his State of the Union that a better politics means spending ‘less time drowning in dark money … that pull[s] us into the gutter,’” said Common Cause President Miles Rapoport. “The President has an opportunity to shine a light on the millions of secret dollars influencing our elections and require government contractors to disclose their political spending.

“Issuing this executive order is squarely within his authority as chief executive. The public interest demands we curb the culture of pay-to-play that infects Washington – but first we have to know who is beholden to whom. That’s why it’s important that the President use his authority to help build a ‘better politics’ and sign this executive order,” Rapoport added.

State and federal laws generally bar action to reward or penalize government contractors based on their political expenditures. But the groups argued that repeated scandals have reinforced the public’s sense that companies and executives get special treatment in return for their political spending.

Our immediate goal is to get out as many events and supporters as we can for the April 2nd to help shine a light on the need for transparency in campaign contributions by federal contractors and to give Obama a push to issue an Executive Order requiring disclosure of campaign contributions for federal contractors Now!

We are asking Organizations and Individuals to Endorse the New York City Event.

Organized for April 2nd to Shine A Light on Corruption in our Democracy, it will take place at 5:00pm, Location: 26 Federal Plaza (Broadway just below Worth) at Outside The "GSA Strategic Sourcing Offices"
