As we speak, there’s over $262 million in outstanding “student lunch debt” – a term so absurd that it shouldn’t even exist. But because of our federal government inaction, millions of students are forced to choose between going hungry and going further into debt.

During the pandemic, the federal government enacted a program to ensure every student has access to a school meal – which unfortunately ended just last year. But it’s proof that we have the ability to enshrine access to school means for all, if we just have the courage to fight for it.
