Sign Now: Save Facebook Transparency!

Facebook is pulling the plug on the transparency tool that detected the Cambridge Analytica scandal—and it’s doing it less than two months before the election!

CrowdTangle was developed independently from Facebook, and gave journalists and researchers a view of what was actually being shared on the platform. Facebook bought CrowdTangle in 2016, and maintained it as a quasi-independent third-party tool until now.

Meta has announced the end of CrowdTangle, on August 14th – just twelve weeks before one of the most consequential presidential elections of our lifetimes. As people like Donald Trump and his allies espouse constant streams of fake news and conspiratorial threats, we need platforms like CrowdTangle more than ever. Take a moment to write to Meta’s executives and demand they remain transparent!

Tell Facebook:

With millions of people on the platform, Meta has a fundamental obligation to promote transparency, fairness, and combat misinformation on its platform. Shutting down CrowdTangle is a huge step in the WRONG direction.

Meta has a history of failing to shut down inflammatory, extremist rhetoric around election cycles, and has previously allowed misinformation to run rampant, reaching millions of people before action has been taken. Independent verification of information and audience reach is the only way for Meta to win back the trust of the people on its platform.

That’s why we’re calling for you to protect CrowdTangle, so that people can trust the information that they see on Facebook. Don’t shut it down!
