SIGN ON: Stop book bans. Defend our right to read.

During the first half of the 2022-2023 school year, far-right extremists have implemented at least 1,477 book bans, affecting at least 874 unique titles.

These book bans are targeting stories about people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. They range from books about civil rights hero Rosa Parks to children’s books about two male penguins raising a chick together.

Now, far-right extremists are forcing “wholesale bans” that close libraries entirely when wide swaths of books are challenged. Even when books are eventually returned to the shelves, they’re unavailable during arduous and slow review processes.

Enough is enough.
