SIGN ON to support better voting access for Indigenous communities!
Despite some progress, Indigenous voters continue to face numerous challenges when it comes to participating in the electoral process. These obstacles include limited access to polling stations, difficulties in obtaining identification cards, and issues surrounding mail-in ballots, especially on reservations.
One significant challenge is the lack of addresses in many homes across Indigenous lands, resulting in a lack of residential mail delivery. This makes voting by mail a challenging task, often forcing our people to embark on long journeys to remote post offices that may have restricted operating hours. Additionally, reaching the ballot box itself can be difficult, as polling places are often located off the reservation and require travel on poorly maintained roads. Some of our Native brothers and sisters lack access to transportation, making the entire voting process even more complicated.
In response to these barriers, our resilient Native voting activists have taken legal action, challenging discriminatory laws and initiatives that hinder our people's access to the ballot box. However, there is still much work to be done.
Will you lend your voice and support to our cause? Please sign our petition, urging for the dismantling of the barriers that obstruct Indigenous individuals from exercising their sacred right to vote.
