Sign the petition: Demand that Tommy Tuberville stop endangering national security over abortion policy

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe and abortions became more restricted in several states, the Pentagon enacted new policies to allow troops to access reproductive health care—including fully paid travel expenses for troops who have to go out of state to obtain an abortion, and up to three weeks of leave for an abortion or a fertility treatment.

In response, Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville has stalled all high-level military promotions since February, promising to continue his tantrum unless the policies are reversed.

In the past, the Senate has confirmed noncontroversial military nominees, including the Joint Chiefs, via unanimous consent. To get around Tuberville's hold, the Senate would have to eat up valuable floor time with a series of hearings and procedural votes. Every second spent on this nonsense is time the Senate isn't doing real work, like passing a budget, protecting our elections, or supporting American families.

Tuberville's antics have real consequences. Five members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are required by law to leave their posts over the next three months, beginning on July 11. Now, thanks to Tuberville, the U.S. Marine Corps is without a confirmed leader for the first time in more than 150 years.

Tuberville is playing games with our national security and the well-being of our troops. Tell him to knock it off already.
