On January 2, 2020, 207 members of Congress filed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. The brief was signed by 39 senators and 168 representatives, including two “Democrats” — Reps. Dan Lipinski and Collin Peterson.

Anti-choice lawmakers have been signaling their intention to challenge Roe v. Wade at the Supreme Court for decades. But since Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation swung the Court to an anti-choice majority, these wildly out-of-touch conservatives have become even more emboldened, and their attacks on reproductive freedom have only intensified.

Now that June Medical LLC. v Gee is scheduled to be heard in March, we’re facing the first major federal judicial challenge to abortion access since Kavanaugh’s confirmation — the stakes have literally never been higher.

For far too long, politicians have interfered in reproductive health decisions. Elected leaders should not be able to dictate our reproductive healthcare access.

Abortion is a safe, normal, necessary medical procedure. It is a human and constitutional right. Opposition to abortion is about controlling the lives of people who can get pregnant — their ability to complete their educations, participate in the workforce, and their fundamental right to decide how or whether to build a family.
