Sign the petition: Social media platforms undeniably bolstered election lies. They MUST prevent spreading election disinformation

Disinformation about voting is one of the biggest threats facing modern elections, a new study has found. Trump’s Big Lie was amplified and went unchecked on social media platforms Facebook/Meta, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube – and those lies continue to be promoted today.

Specifically, the report found Big Lie claims promoted online contributed to a lack of trust in U.S. elections and increased support for new restrictive voting laws that disproportionately impact people of color.

This is a threat to our democracy that social media continues to ignore and profit from.

We live in an age when false information can be magnified and disseminated to millions with a single tweet or Facebook post. Social media platforms must be held responsible for addressing these harms before people are exposed.

Social media platforms must be more transparent and consistent in their content policies and take responsibility for abetting the continued spread of lies and disinformation. These companies must get a handle on their disinformation crises and actually curb these election lies. Our democracy hangs in the balance.
