Sign the petition to PepsiCo: Shut the spigot to traitors, our democracy...for good!

One hundred-forty seven Republican members of Congress are directly complicit in inciting the attack on the U.S. Capitol through their attempts to overturn the election.

They contributed to the misinformation that ultimately incited rioters to storm the U.S. Capitol building in a bid to stop Congress from counting the electoral votes, resulting in five deaths.

When Congress reconvened on that same day, these congresspeople voted to reject legitimate and fair election results, opting to blindly follow Trump, turn their back on the certification of a free and fair election, and disenfranchise millions of voters.

Yet, despite breaking their Oath of Office, these members of Congress have not been disavowed by a slew of corporations and trade groups that helped get them elected.

There has been no accountability in Congress for the 147 following their betrayal to our democracy. This is shameless. But we can make sure support for their bad actions is not continued.

Following the attempted coup, some corporations like PepsiCo--one of the world’s largest food and beverage corporations--took modest steps, pledging to temporarily halt donations. This is an empty gesture. The billions of dollars that have flooded our politics looms large in putting these people in office and animating their anti-democratic positions on everything from election certification to depriving everyday people relief and fair pay in the midst of a pandemic.

We are calling for a permanent moratorium on corporate political spending. It’s time for a true reckoning for corporate America. Its purchase of our politics has consequences that our health, our environment, and our democracy can no longer abide.

Large food corporations, in particular, should be in the business of nourishing the public, not giving sustenance to hate, violence, and a bevy of policies that undermine our health and well-being. And PepsiCo stands out among these corporations in its efforts to be seen as a good “corporate citizen” while bankrolling politicians and trade groups like the National Restaurant Association that are actively undermining workers’ rights and public health protections.

We are calling on PepsiCo to get its money out of politics and to start by permanently halting all funding to the 147 Republican congresspeople who have trampled on our Constitution in voting against the certification of the election.

Add your name to demand PepsiCo permanently stop its political spending, starting with the instigators of the insurrection.
