During the last two years, Republicans parroted false claims of election fraud to pass new laws that seize power from professional, non-partisan election administrators and expose the election process to partisan influence and disruption. Their lies created conditions for delay, chaos, and uncertainty that threatened the counting of votes and certification of election results.

As a result, election workers—poll workers, managers, clerks, inspectors, and municipal, county, and state election officials—faced threats and violence from election deniers. Still, even as they were vilified and undermined, election workers protected the bedrock of our democracy—fair elections and the fundamental right of all Americans to vote and have their votes counted.

Election workers are unsung heroes of democracy. Their work ensured the integrity of our elections and proper functioning of our democracy against threats from right-wing extremists. Our victories were possible because of their service.
