Sign to honor Shireen Abu Akleh by calling on the U.S. to hold Israel accountable

In a world trying to erase the Palestinian people, beloved Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was committed to shining a spotlight on everyday Palestinian life under Israeli oppression.

Today we commemorate one year since the Israeli military murdered Shireen Abu Akleh, a beloved Palestinian American journalist.

On May 11, 2022, an Israeli soldier shot and killed Shireen while she was clearly marked as press. Investigations by news organizations and human rights groups have concluded that this was intentional targeting.

Israeli forces shot at people trying to help Shireen and violently attacked mourners at her funeral. Her family is still calling for the U.S. to hold Israel accountable for the murder of a U.S. citizen.

Unfortunately, the Israeli military has a pattern of killing journalists and U.S. citizens with impunity.

And the bipartisan majority in Congress has insisted that Israel doesn’t have to comply with basic human rights laws to receive U.S. military aid. This is a stark contrast from our standards for all other countries, and stands out because Israel is the largest recipient of U.S. military aid.

Please add your name now to tell Congress and the Biden administration: We need justice for Shireen and for all Palestinians, and that means holding the Israeli government accountable. Stop using U.S. tax dollars to fund Israel’s human rights violations.
