SIM's Youth Financial Literacy Program
The Student Immigrant Movement (SIM) is an undocumented youth-led grassroots organization. The members and leaders of SIM are youth who are directly impacted by immigration law and understand the difficulty of trying to navigate the workforce as undocumented people in the United States. While many times we see the door to opportunities around work or gaining experience close because of our immigration status, we are here to tell you that you are not alone and there are ways to move forward. Through our collective experience, we have put together this special program for immigrant youth who are interested in learning the basics about financial literacy, the different options for making money to support themselves and their family, and gain experience to develop their path to career success.
The Youth Financial Literacy Program (YFLP) is one of SIM’s newest programs for immigrant youth along with the College Access Program and the Know Your Rights Program. SIM's objective is to provide safe and explorative spaces for training and conversations about making and managing our money and careers as immigrant youth. Many immigrant youth and families are not aware of the different opportunities and resources that exist for undocumented people. We believe that is important for youth to learn about these different opportunities and the basics of financial literacy to support themselves and their families. Through YFLP, we encourage youth to stay connected in SIM to build strong relationships in their community and become more involved with SIM’s many different teams and programs.
For our Youth Financial Literacy Program (YFLP): We will engage youth in a series of workshops, panels/conversations with guest speakers, and share important resources in the community for youth and families to know about.
