Pledge to #SpeakTruthToPowerGaza: Talk to Your Friends and Family about the Gaza Electricity Crisis
There is a power crisis happening in Gaza and the mainstream media is completely ignoring it. We cannot let our community continue to ignore this crisis
IfNotNow members all across the country are illuminating this dire situation— join us in telling our friends, family and neighbors about this humanitarian crisis happening in Gaza right now
Some places in Gaza are receiving less than two hours of electricity a day, others are getting no electricity at all. People’s lives are being disrupted in extremely serious ways: from a lack of water created by an inability to power pumps, to a lack of life-sustaining medical care due to a shortage of power in hospitals. People are dying because they don’t have access to major necessities. Since 2007 Gaza has been under tight blockade by the Israeli military. Though Israel officially claims to have completely retreated from Gaza, and therefore denies any responsibility for Gazans, in practice Israel still controls many aspects of life in the strip through its blockade.
We must not let Gaza continue to be ignored; our voices can be a powerful force in bringing this crisis to our community.
We are seeing essentially no coverage of the power crisis in Gaza in the mainstream, American Jewish community. Our communities’ silence is shameful and sends a message of approval of Israel’s actions; especially when just weeks ago we saw such uproar in our community over the Western Wall and the Israeli conversion law.
The Occupation is causing yet another crisis for Palestinians and we can’t just stand by. If we want to freedom and dignity for those in Gaza we must speak truth to power-- we need to stand up in our communities and draw attention to this crisis. Join us and together lets #SpeakTruthToPowerGaza.
