On December 14, the Federal Communications Commission will vote to overturn a 2015 decision that bars internet service providers (ISPs) from blocking, slowing, or providing preferential treatment to particular sites and services.

Net neutrality is the principal that internet service providers should, in general, treat all data sent over the network the same, no matter whether it's an email, an emoji sent over a chat service, a phone call, a political rant live-streamed by a college student from her parents' basement, or the latest show on Netflix.

Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon were able to become the giant technology companies because of the free and open internet. If net neutrality is repealed, it will probably result not so much in throttling certain sites or content, but in telecom companies charging new fees and tolls and a stymieing of innovation.

Call and write the FCC Commissioners, telling them to vote NO on repealing Net Neutrality, especially Chairman Ajit Pai.

Repealing net neutrality will not only stymie entrepreneurial innovation but it will increase costs of access. Innovation in the 21st century has been spurred by a free and open internet. It has given companies, like Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon, a leg up to become the giants they are. Small businesses and entrepreneurs have also thrived because of affordable access.

I urge all members of the FCC to reject Restore Internet Freedom and instead support Net Neutrality.
