72% of transit agencies in California, including Bay Area Transit agencies  SFMTA, BART, Caltrain, AC Transit and other agencies, are heading toward a daunting fiscal cliff as federal Covid relief funding runs out while ridership regrows more slowly. This operating funding shortfall could lead to deep cuts to transit service, potentially triggering a spiral of decline with closed stations, infrequent service, no weekend transit.

The most important action you can take right now is to call your state legislators before an important Senate Budget Committee hearing on March 9. Here are instructions.

1) Find your California state assembly member and state senator. https://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/

2) Call their Sacramento office. Here is a script you can customize

“Hi, my name is ________, I live in ________ and I am a constituent of __(elected official). I am concerned that Bay Area transit is at risk of drastic cuts because Federal funding is running out. Transit makes my life better because __________________.

I am asking that the representative support multi-year operations funding for transit from the state in order to prevent massive service cuts, fare increases. And I am asking that they support investments in regrowing transit ridership such as….
