Take Action: End Prison Labor’s Role In Our Food System

Prison labor is responsible for foods that end up in Target, Whole Foods, Aldi and Costco―and the prisoners who are forced to play a role in our food system receive little-to-no compensation for their labor.

This is slavery by another name. Political leaders must take action to end prison labor’s role in our food system! Sign our open letter today!

Open Letter to political leaders:

The issue of the American prison food system is the issue of the global food system. Food should be food. Food should be nutritious, nutritious food should be accessible, the people who labor in the food system should benefit from their labor and, overall, food should definitely not be a punishment. These are not lofty ambitions for a perfect future but intrinsic truths to a well-functioning food system. Our lives as free citizens are currently made easier and cheaper by prison labor and imprisoned peoples’ lives are made to be more difficult and unjust by our food supply chains. End forced prison labor’s role in our food system!
