Tell America’s Mayors: Immediately invest in public transit, including expanding routes, increasing frequency, and lowering fares to reduce our country’s dependence on foreign sources of oil now.

With world events driving the price of gas to historic records combined with the accelerated return to work following the pandemic, now more than ever -- for consumers, for our economy and for our environment -- we need to double down on our investment in public transit.

These investments will make our communities safer, more accessible, sustainable, and equitable, because robust public transit systems are drivers of economic growth and a bulwark against our dependence on foreign sources of oil.

Fortunately we secured billions in new funding last year that Congress has now released to state and local governments. Cities have an unprecedented opportunity to build a public transit system that meets this moment.

Unfortunately, getting elected leaders to follow through will take action to make it happen.
