If the Senate confirms two public service-minded governors who will fire Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, then President Biden and Congress can finally undo the damage done to the USPS by DeJoy and Donald Trump.

As Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs (HSGAC), Senator Gary Peters directly oversees the confirmation process and he can lead the fight by supporting the swift nominations (the terms of Lee Moak and William Zollars expired in December) of two public service minded governors with postal experience who are wholly committed to the task of protecting and expanding our Postal Service.

President Biden has the opportunity to appoint two governors who will stop rubber stamping DeJoy’s disastrous policies. With a Senate majority, Chairman Peters can make sure these appointments get confirmed. The current state of USPS under DeJoy demands swift, bold action.

America needs two new postal governors who will:

• PROTECT VOTE-BY-MAIL: Commit to advance measures that both strengthen voter confidence and streamline the tasks of postal workers to allow vote-by-mail to be safe, secure, and accessible for all voters no matter where they live.
  
• REDUCE CLIMATE POLLUTION: Require the Next Generation Delivery Vehicles contract to increase to 95% the percentage of electric vehicles built in order to create a green fleet that will reduce the USPS greenhouse gas emissions.
  
• STAND WITH WORKERS: Require all contracts with outside vendors, including the NGDV, use union labor, pay livable wages, and protect worker safety.
  
• EXPAND PRODUCTS AND SERVICES: Support the expansion of Postal Banking beyond pilot programs, add new products like license renewals and mass transit passes, and provide WIFI access and other services to bring in new revenue.
  
• FIRE LOUIS DEJOY: Reject Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s backwards vision of privatization, short-term fixes, post office closures, consolidations, and slower mail with higher prices by committing to replace Louis DeJoy.

President Joe Biden must appoint and the Senate must confirm Governors who will fire Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and advocate strongly for the expansion of USPS products and services now.
