Tell Congress: Overturn Citizens United and Pass the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax
Americans for Tax Fairness has just released a shocking new report that reveals the true extent of billionaire influence in our political system. Just 150 billionaire families had, as of the end of August, already spent nearly $1.4 billion on the 2024 elections―more than billionaires spent over the entire 2020 campaign.
Even more alarming, nearly two-thirds (65.6%) of this billionaire money is backing right-wing candidates who consistently push for tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy while threatening the rights and economic security of everyday people.
This flood of billionaire money is corrupting our political system, leading to a tax system rigged in favor of the wealthy, attacks on voting rights, opposition to workers' rights and fair wages, and proposed cuts to essential services like Social Security and Medicare.
We can't allow billionaires to buy our democracy. That's why we're calling on Congress to take two critical actions:
-
Overturn Citizens United: Pass a constitutional amendment to end unlimited corporate and billionaire spending in our elections.
-
Pass the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax (BMIT): Ensure the wealthiest Americans pay at least a 25% tax rate on their total income, including unrealized capital gains. This would raise hundreds of billions of dollars for public investments while reducing the pool of untaxed wealth used to influence our politics.
Every day we delay, billionaires tighten their grip on our political system. That’s why we must demand immediate action to curb this dangerous concentration of power and protect the integrity of our democratic process.
Stand with us by telling Congress to overturn Citizens United and pass the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax to defend our democracy from billionaire influence.
