Tell Facebook: Don't give Moms for Liberty a platform for hate

In many ways, social media platforms have become the new town squares and the gravity of the content that is propagated in these spaces cannot be overstated.

Facebook, as the largest player in that space, has previously demonstrated they understand the danger posed by hate-speech, the promotion of violence, the spread of disinformation and the threat of extremist groups to children and adults, democracy, America and even the rest of the globe. From the restrictions placed on former President Donald Trump's posting access to the outright ban of the Proud Boys they’ve taken decisive action against influential figures and organizations before.

It’s time for Facebook to do it again.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has branded the right-wing funded Republican-led Moms for Liberty as an "extremist anti-government" entity, placing it alongside the infamous KKK, Proud Boys, and the Patriot Front.

Moms for Liberty's conduct speaks for itself.

Moms for Liberty is the leading group behind book bans nationwide. At least 1,477 book bans, affecting 874 unique titles have been implemented so far this year.

They have organized support with the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, and other groups involved in the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6th, to threaten, harass, and intimidate teachers, librarians, and even entire school boards across the county.

Moms for Liberty is leading a battle against inclusivity in schools, drawing from ideas rooted in age-old white supremacy. They’re working to eliminate America’s “hard history” -- topics related to racism, slavery, and just about anything having to do with LGBTQ+ people -- from schools with a “very deliberate strategy to go to the local level.” A Reuters special report found teachers, librarians, and school administrators “living in fear” of Moms for Liberty and their affiliate groups.

With groups sprawling across Facebook, Moms for Liberty is not limited to activities in just the most extreme anti-Black and anti-LGBTQ+ states. There are reportedly 245 Moms for Liberty chapters in 44 states nationwide, including 14 local chapters in California and at least 10 in New York.

In the interest of public safety, for individuals and American democracy itself, Facebook can not give the right-wing funded extremists at Moms for Liberty a platform to organize for hate. Please add your name now.
