Tell President Biden: Bring young people to the table!

Young Americans turned out in record-breaking numbers in 2020, defeating Donald Trump and electing Joe Biden President. Now, the Biden-Harris administration must address the unique concerns of the voters that helped put them in the White House.

Young Americans are more politically active and engaged than ever before, and politicians can’t afford to take their votes for granted. Youth-led movements have changed our country for the better, forcing the government to focus on the climate crisis, tackle gun violence, and recognize the humanity of LGBTQ+ people. We deserve a seat at the table.

Yet, the systemic lack of sustained, youth-specific roles and Young Americans across the federal government limits young people’s agency―and jeopardizes our democracy.

We are asking the Biden-Harris administration and Congress to do three things to bring young people to the table:

  1. Create Office of Young Americans
Establish an independent Office within the Executive Office of the President (EOP), led by a Director of Young Americans who sits at the Domestic Policy Council (DPC) and works with the National Security Council (NSC) and National Economic Council (NEC).

  2. Empower youth in existing administrative positions
Build out opportunities for Young Americans and create a diverse public service pipeline by devoting staff within the Presidential Personnel Office (PPO) to the hiring of Young Americans and conducting a Federal Youth Inclusion Assessment.

  3. Create a Young Americans Advisory Council
The advisory council would be composed of representatives who explicitly engage in activities closely related to Young Americans.
