Tell Republicans in Congress: Stop undermining Democracy

The petition to Republicans in Congress reads:

"Stop undermining Democracy by trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election."

On Wednesday, more than a dozen Republican Senators and nearly 150 Republican members of the House of Representatives are expected to vote against counting the electoral college votes that would certify the election for President-elect Joe Biden.

This shameful attempt to undermine our Democracy won’t change the fact that Joe Biden won the election and will become president just two weeks later, but it will increase the likelihood of violence from the right-wing militias descending on Washington this week.

On Sunday, the Washington Post released audio from a one-hour phone call on Saturday in which Donald Trump pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to find enough votes to overturn his defeat in the state. If it wasn’t clear before, there is now no doubt that Donald Trump will do every single thing in his power to stay in the White House, regardless of what voters, judges or anyone else says.

But Republicans members of Congress – some of whom just took the oath to defend the Constitution yesterday – have a responsibility to tone down the rhetoric before it leads to widespread violence.

Right now, heavily armed right-wing militia groups are traveling to Washington D.C. for a “stop the steal” rally on Wednesday. On Friday, Republican congressman Louis Gohmert even said on a conservative TV network that “you’ve got to go to the streets and be as violent as Antifa and BLM.”

Sadly, some of the Republicans leading the charge to contest the election results, like Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, appear to be doing so to build support for a 2024 presidential run. Sign our petition now to help show Republicans in Congress that undermining our Democracy is a political loser – just like Donald Trump.
