Tell Your Council Member to Support Paid Sick Days

FIGHT FOR AUSTIN WORKERS! CONTACT YOUR CITY COUNCIL MEMBER AND TELL THEM TO SUPPORT PAID SICK DAYS-- IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES:

"Hi, my name is _________, and I'm calling today to encourage you to vote "yes" on item #49, which would give almost 223,000 people in Austin the ability to earn paid sick days at their jobs. Please vote "yes" on this measure when it comes up for a vote. Thank you"

No working person in our community who gets sick or who must care for a sick family member should ever have to choose between going to the doctor and paying bills. But because more than 200,000 Austin workers lack the opportunity to earn paid sick days, that’s exactly what happens. It doesn’t have to be this way.

On Thursday, Feb. 15th, the Austin City Council plans to vote on an ordinance that would provide employees the ability to earn a limited number of paid sick days. At stake is economic justice, as well as public health.

When working families can take care of themselves, we all benefit.  The choice between suffering financial turmoil or spreading illness benefits no one. All Austin working people, regardless of occupation or financial status, deserve a fair shot at making responsible decisions on when to go to work and when to go to the doctor.
