Thank you Elizabeth Warren

"She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted."

We strongly condemn the U.S. Senate vote to silence Senator Elizabeth Warren's voice as she attempted to read into the record Coretta Scott King's 1986 letter articulating why Jeff Sessions should not be confirmed as a judge. Not long after Senator Warren was shut down for speaking, Senator Jeff Merkley read the letter into the record without comment or reprisal.

This sent a message to women everywhere that the voices of women are not welcome in public discourse, and most certainly not the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Nevertheless, we persist. And we thank Senator Elizabeth Warren for her courage. We also thank the late Coretta Scott King for her vision and courage in 1986.

Women have a right to speak without interruption, without reprimand and without public shaming.
