The Future of the Liberal Democrats and Progressive Politics

Join us on Thursday 6th August at 5.30pm-7.00pm (BST), when we’ll be hosting live conversations with both candidates for the Liberal Democrat leadership election.

The Liberal Democrats have gone through two cathartic experiences - the Coalition and then the campaign for a second Brexit vote. Where do they go now and what does it mean for progressive politics, not least given the new leadership of Labour under Sir Keir Starmer? The direction of travel seems clear, to the Left. But what does this entail and how can a radical shift happen while they are second place to the Tories in the vast majority of their target seats?

To discuss the future of the Liberal Democrats we will be joined in conversation first by Sir Ed Davey and then Layla Moran. We will then discuss what they have said, the context the Party is in and its strategic options to help build a good society.

5.30 In conversation with Sir Ed Davey

6.00 In conversation with Layla Moran

6.30 What does it all mean? Conversation with Jon Alexander (Director of the New Citizenship Project, Compass Associate and Social Liberal Forum Council Member) and Jane Dodds (Leader of the Liberal Democrats in Wales)

This event is open to everyone but if you like what we do, please consider joining us as a Compass member for more events, new writing, and access to our live calls.
